Meet #sewingwithkim Event Partner – Little Hands Design

latest logo version round

The founder and director of Little Hands Design, Astrid Jacoby, was born and grew up in East Berlin.  She says:

“I grew up in a culture where making and repairing was seen as normal, often a necessity and something that was both practical to learn but also extremely enjoyable. It was an original make do and mend culture.

When I moved to London, the level of commercialism that came with design shocked me. Practical skills seemed unfashionable and, so it seemed to me, looked at as something separate from being creative and even worse, not linked to the so called academic skills.

I started Little Hands to get first children and then adults using their hands again; to be curious about practical problem solving through designing and making and to see making as a way to apply their academic skills. After all what is any knowledge worth if we can not apply it in any way?”

The sewing studio founded over 15 years ago is located in one of the prominent areas of London. Catering to students of all ages and genders, this company makes fashion accessible to all. They are a non-profit Community Interest Company and make the process of creating fashion easy and fun, it really isn’t rocket science.

The studio is equipped with over 20 sewing machines, a vast selection of fabrics, patterns and sewing tools to help the creative process of garment make run smoothly! What I love personally about this studio is how spacious it is. For a location in central London, it has enough room to accommodate three large tables and multi chairs which can house up to 15 plus students. Asides the studio founder, there are assistants helping out to ensure everyone is attended to.

Visit their website here to find out more details on what classes they offer. In their schedule of upcoming events is their Kraft N’ Kits affordable sale on the 26th of November. From prices as low as £0.50 and free nibbles, the event will run from 12 noon to 5:00pm. If you’re in or around London, drop by the vibrant studio and grab some early Christmas presents.
