Beyonce Inspired Victorian Blouse

Compliments of the season beauties ^.^
Hope you’ve been well? I have an exciting DIY fashion post for you guys today. This post was inspired by Queen B in her new music video ‘All night’. This music video was yet another story telling just like the others in her ‘Lemonade’ album. It is rumored that the beautiful dress Beyonce’ wore in the official music video of “all night’ was designed by the legendary British-Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare. His work is highly influenced by culture of  his African roots.

“Shonibare’s work examines race, class and the construction of cultural identity through sharp political commentary of the tangled interrelationship between Africa and Europe and their respective economic and political histories.”

As a fashion design student, I have deep respect for his work and the messages he propagates through his art. I appreciate the fact that he shines light on delicate issues that affect most nations today.

For all this reasons and more, I decided to recreate the top part of this stunning dress worn by Queen B.

I started out by creating patterns for the blouse. The way I adapted this design to my body might not be the way Beyonce’s dress was made. I decided also to work with ankara for this project, that’s a no brainer right?!.
