The Monki Jacket

Happy Sunday Beauties!

Oh dear, April is almost over. Am I the only that thinks this month is going by very quickly?! Well, rejoice with me because I just concluded my second year in Fashion school. I have just one more year to go before I become a fully certified women’s wear designer. Time really does fly by when you are having fun!

In today’s post, I will be showing you a completed project of mine from school. I am still in awe of the fact that I made a tailored jacket. Really? I did it? Wow! It might not seem like a big deal to you or anyone else but to me, I am really happy with the outcome. The project truly challenged me technically. I pushed myself to adapt to skills that were completely new to me. The project brief asked us to pick a brand to design for and I selected Monki. The Monki brand to me is quite edgy, quirky, mixed with put-together street style. I didn’t want to play safe either with my design. I considered the interior of the new London buses for aesthetic inspiration for my jacket.

I translated the curved beams in the bus to the sleeves, pockets and design details of my jacket.

Parts of the jacket laid out. 20 in total. Some sides have duplicate cut out to account for both the left and right side of the jacket.

The jacket took me almost an entire month to complete. I was working on two other projects at the same time though. For the final design, I used a wool based pink fabric.
